About Phoenix Power 1

As part of the Government of Egypt’s Feed-In Tariff (FIT) program launched in late-2014 for both solar and wind renewable energy project, Phoenix Power 1 project will include a 62 MW Solar Power Plant located in Bin Ban, Egypt. The project will be constructed near Luxor and Aswan region in the country and will sell generated power to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) at a rate of 14.35 cent per KWh.

The project is expected to begin the construction phase in November 2016 and be completed by July 2017, followed by 25 years of operation. This is one of the many power projects that Egypt is carrying out in an effort to improve the currently struggling power sector affected by frequent power black outs.

This project is in line with the Egyptian Renewable Energy National Strategy, approved in 2008, to satisfy 20% of the generated electricity by 2020 using renewable energies, as well as fits in the Egyptian Solar Plan, approved in 2012, which includes adding 3500 MW (2800 MW CSP, 700 MW PV) of Solar Energy by 2027

Expected date of project completion: Q3 2017

PV Project Capacity: 62 Mega Watts Peak (MWp)

PV Project Length: 1.1 million m²

PV Farm will:

  • Use 200,000 PV solar panels
  • Integrate inverter stations with step-up transformers up to 22KV
  • Include a full weather station with soiling units
  • Integrate state-of-the-art SCADA System for complete monitoring of system operation
  • Connect to an operations & maintenance building
  • Link with a connection building
  • Include a control room
  • Feature full security
